Amateur hour

Earlier this year there was a bit of a hubbub after President Barack Obama bowed to the Saudi king at the G-20 summit. At the time, I was inclined to initially let the mistake slide because of Obama’s inexperience and only posted about it because the White House insisted that what I could see with my own two eyes as a bow was nothing of the sort. The audacity of the “Do you believe me or your own lying eyes” defense of their boss was far more odious than the initial protocol faux pas.

Well, no more excuses. Last time President Obama bowed to a monarch, he heard about the backlash. The first time it’s a simple mistake, the second time it’s a disturbing trend.

That’s the President of the United States bowing to the Japanese emperor.

When the Chinese Premier comes to the United States, we better hope that Obama doesn’t prostrate himself before him.

I understand the problem sort of. But really what does it mean? Does anybody thing Obama believes he (or the United States for that matter) are subservient to Japan or Japanese interests? More likely Obama is going to sell out Japan and east Asia security the the Chinese for some yet to be called vote on Iran.
