Idiot of the day

I wish I knew the name of the color commentator ESPN had doing the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, because the man is a Grade A, World Class moron.

Just about every color commentator in every sport suffers from logorrhea. Heck, it's practically a job requirement. They compare the starting running back for the whatever team is playing today to Barry Sanders or Jim Brown -- and the guy may not even be in the league the next year.

That sort of stuff is silly, but within acceptable bounds.

The commenator for the hot dog eating contest went way overboard, repeatedly saying that Joey Chestnut (who eventually won) would appear online aside Abraham Lincoln when you type in "American Hero," and on and on and on. The first time dumb announcer guy used the term "hero" to describe Chestnut it was a little off-putting, but he did it repeatedly. Comparing someone of questionable judgment who gorges himself on hot dogs to Abraham Lincoln or any of the heroes of today who are serving overseas in the armed forces is just sick. And the guy wouldn't shut up about it. He continually upped the ante talking about how Chestnut and his victory would be remembered and what meaning it had to Americans everywhere that the mustard yellow belt belonging to the event champion was once again held by an American.

Joey Chestnut is an oddity -- not a hero.

If you want to know what a hero looks like, you can go here. Joey Chestnut is no hero.
