As Thomas Sowell so powerfully argued in an article last week, it’s the pacifists who are the root cause of much of the violence in the world today.
There was a time when it would have been suicidal to threaten, much less attack, a nation with much stronger military power because one of the dangers to the attacker would be the prospect of being annihilated.
“World opinion,” the U.N. and “peace movements” have eliminated that deterrent. An aggressor today knows that if his aggression fails, he will still be protected from the full retaliatory power and fury of those he attacked because there will be hand-wringers demanding a cease fire, negotiations and concessions.
That has been a formula for never-ending attacks on Israel in the Middle East. The disastrous track record of that approach extends to other times and places — but who looks at track records?
Sowell has it exactly right; Matthews exactly wrong.
As to the headline, well you can read about my high school fistfight here.
And I’m willing to bet that, unlike me, Matthews never got into a fistfight in high school. If by chance I’m wrong and he did, then I bet he didn’t win.
It seems that any “school yard” fighting experience that would be relevant in this situation would be fights against bullies. Mr. Mathews often bullies his guests with nonsense when he doesn’t agree with them. Maybe Mr. Mathews was lamenting that the dreaded neo-cons weren’t bullies in high school; like Mr. Mathews perhaps?
